An international forum dedicated to the memory of Victor Ivannikov, an outstanding scientist, founder of the system programming school, one of the first developers of operating systems in Russia, was held in Yerevan. Authoritative scientists from Armenia, Russia, Georgia, Israel, Denmark, Greece, as well as 200 young researchers from Armenia and Russia took part in the forum.
A student of academic Ivannikov and his successor as director of the Institute of System Programming named after Ivannikov RAS Harutyun Avetisyan noted that the place of the conference was not chosen by chance.
In turn, Ruben Topchyan, director of the National Center for the Quality Assurance of Professional Education of Armenia expressed his hope that the forum will become an annual forum and will be transformed into a platform for discussion of advanced technologies among specialists in the sphere. "We would like to inspire our youth to live and work in Armenia, to participate in the conduct of modern research at the international level," he added.
The chairman of the Russian section of the IEEE Computer Society Sergey Prokhorov also took part in the forum. He noted that negotiations are currently underway to open a representative office of the Association in Armenia.
After the conference, the guests took part in the opening of the traditional khachkar monument in the Khor Virap monastery in honor of Academician Ivannikov, initiated by the students and followers of Viktor Petrovich, IT specialists from different countries who highly appreciated his contribution to the development of science, cultural relations, friendship between Russia and Armenia.
The forum was organized at the initiative of the Institute of System Programming. V.P. Ivannikov Institute of Problems of Informatics and Automation of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia, Russian- Armenian University, Yerevan State University, Moscow State University branch named after Lomonosov in Yerevan.
The invited guests were well-known experts in the field of computer technology, including Professor Dionisios (Dennis) Tsikridzis, President of the Scientific Council of the Hellenic Foundation for Research and Innovation; Dines Bjorner, Honorary Professor of the Danish Technical University; Akaf Schuster, Professor of the Faculty of Computer Science of the Technion, a member of ACM (Israel).
