ArmInfo. Wind energy is able to provide 10% of the country's electricity needs. Acting Deputy Minister of Energy Infrastructures and Natural Resources Hayk Harutyunyan wrote on his Facebook page on May 7, summing up the results of the work done.
According to him, the company from the UAE "Access Infra Central Asia Limited" announced its intention to build wind power plants in Armenia with a total installed capacity of 120 MW. Another 120-150 150 MW of electricity from wind energy facilities will be received through investments from the Spanish company Axion. Currently, both companies are measuring at mountain passes, where the country's wind resources are being studied. It is expected that the measurements will continue for 1.2 years, and if there are positive results, the construction of wind power stations with a total installed capacity of 200-250 MW will begin, which will constitute 10% of all the country's electricity needs.
Earlier ArmInfo referring to Hayk Harutyunyan reported that the company from the United Arab Emirates "Access Infra Central Asia Limited" in order to study the resource of wind power in Gegharkunik region installed a tower, which has not yet had analogues in Armenia. In March last year, the Armenian government decided to assist Access Infra Central Asia Limited in order to build wind power stations with a total installed capacity of 150 MW. "If the expectations are met, then in the next two to three years, there will be an unparalleled wind power station in Armenia, which will be located in the mountainous region and become the highest in the world." A number of innovative solutions are envisaged for this purpose," Hayk Harutyunyan said.
