Russian agriculture supervision allowed introduction of temporary restrictions on importation of tomatoes and cucumbers from Armenia

ArmInfo. Russian agriculture  supervision allowed the introduction of temporary restrictions on the  importation of tomatoes and cucumbers from Armenia after the insect  pests were identified in the lots of these vegetables, RIA Novosti  reported citing the Russian department.

The service informs that in May of the current year, Russian  agriculture supervision employees strengthened control on production,  coming from Armenia via Upper Lars checkpoint (Southern Ossettia).

"When delivering quarantine products from Armenia to Russia,  accompanied by phytosanitary certificates issued by the State Food  Safety Service of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of  Armenia, seven cases of detection of two types of quarantine for  Russia objects were detected from May 3 to 9, 2018:  tomato miner  moth on tomatoes and western (Californian) flower thrips on  cucumbers, "- said the agency.

The products were returned to the exporter. The State Food Safety  Service of the Ministry of Agriculture of Armenia sent notifications  on violations of phytosanitary requirements of the Eurasian Economic  Union with the requirement to conduct an official investigation and  take measures to prevent such cases.

"In case of continued receipt of quarantine products, including the  presence of not quarantined organisms not notified to the Republic of  Armenia, Russian agriculture supervision will be forced to impose  temporary restrictions on quarantine products exported to the  territory of the Russian Federation from the Republic of Armenia,"  the Russian service concludes.
