ArmInfo. Vice Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan received a delegation led by Neufel Telahig, the Regional Director of Programs for Armenia of the Near Earth North Africa and Europe division of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). The parties discussed prospects for cooperation.

According to the press service of the Armenian government, during the  meeting the priorities of the Armenian Cabinet of Ministers for the  development of the agricultural sector, the planned projects were  presented.

The goal of the Armenian government's cooperation with IFAD is also  to overcome poverty in the RA regions by assisting small farmers and  the most vulnerable groups of the population. Particular attention  will be paid to irrigation, the development of people's skills, and  the promotion of social capital.

On May 31, during the meeting with Armenian Minister of Agriculture  Arthur Khachatryan, IFAD representative Neufel Telahig confirmed  readiness to develop and implement new joint programs with the  Ministry of Agriculture that will be in tune with the current  priorities of the sphere.

Earlier, on January 31, 2018, an agreement was reached to create in  the near future a working group, which will include representatives  of the Ministry of Agriculture, the private sector and IFAD. The main  task of the group will be the development of the short-term  (2019-2020) and long-term (2019-2024) strategies for the development  of agricultural production in Armenia. The International Fund for  Agricultural Development (IFAD) was founded in 1977 (Rome (Italy)).  IFAD is a specialized UN organization whose main goal is to combat  poverty in rural areas of developing countries.

The Republic of Armenia has joined IFAD since 1993 and is on the list  of developed countries.
