Armenia will take part in the program of the EBRD "Green cities"  worth $ 228 million

ArmInfo. Armenia will take part in the program of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development "Green Cities". The total cost of the program is $ 228  million, the Deputy Head of the EBRD's Climate Change and Energy  Efficiency Team Nigel Holantz said during a meeting with the Minister  of Nature Protection of Armenia Eric Grigoryan on September 18.

According to the press service of the Ministry of Nature Protection  of the Republic of Armenia, Nigel Holantz informed that 9 cities  participate in the program. Moreover, Armenia in the list of these  countries occupies an exclusive place, because it is represented by  two cities - Yerevan and Gyumri, in the remaining countries the  program will be implemented only in one city.

Note that the official website of the EBRD notes that large cities  face a huge number of problems that cause climate change, such as air  pollution, traffic jams or inefficient waste management systems,  water supply and sanitation. The EBRD actively helps to solve such  problems through investments in municipal infrastructure improvements  through the new Green Cities program and under the aegis of the  strategic initiative of the bank for the transition to a green  economy. "Our projects already help Belgrade, Bishkek, Sarajevo,  Yerevan and Tbilisi, among many others become more green cities."  With the support of our partners - International donors who cooperate  with the EBRD, local governments and business representatives in our  region - we invest in projects that improve people's lives. Namely,  we finance energy-efficient transport, modernization of waste  management systems, water supply, sanitation, central heating, and  many other projects in the urban infrastructure and transport sector,  "the EBRD message reads.
