ArmInfo. In the first half of 2018, the volume of exports of diamonds from Armenia decreased by 8.2% per annum, while in the same period of 2017, growth was recorded at 92.5%.
According to the RA Customs Service, in the first half of 2018. Armenia exported 122.9 thousand carats of diamonds, the customs value of which decreased by 19.3% per annum - up to $ 42.9 million. The dominant export volume of diamonds from Armenia falls on the United Arab Emirates (45.2%), Russia (29%), Belgium (14.2 %), United States (5.6%), as well as in a smaller amount to Israel and Iran. At the same time, a positive trend was recorded in the line of imports of cutting industry: in quantitative terms, supply volumes increased by 7.5% in the first half of 2018 (against a growth of 52.4% in the same period of 2017). During the reporting period, 262,500 carats of rough diamonds worth $ 79.3 million (with an annual growth of 5.3%) were imported into the republic. Primarily, rough diamonds are imported to Armenia from the United Arab Emirates (45.3%), India (13%), Switzerland (8.8%), Russia (9.8%), Belgium (7.2%), Canada (5, 5%), Hong Kong (3.3%) and the rest from Israel, Thailand, South Africa, Lebanon.
As a comparison, we note that in the first half of 2017, Armenia exported 133.8 thousand carats of diamonds with a total value of $ 53.1 million, and imported 244.2 thousand carats with a total value of $ 75.3 million.
