ArmInfo.Schneider Electric Corporation donated to the Armenian NPP equipment for test operation. The transfer ceremony, which took place the day before, was attended by the Director of Schneider Electric Representation in Armenia Avetik Kalantaryan and General Director of the NPP Movses Vardanyan.
According to the press service of the ANPP, under the contract, concluded between "ANPP" CJSC and "Schneider Electric" Corporation, Kalantaryan donated equipment to the ANPP as a gift for trial operation, particularly SEPAM 80NPP with relevant technical documentation.
Then, a working meeting was held under the chairmanship of Movses Vardanyan with the participation of senior staff and managers of interested units. Director General thanked the Director of the Armenian representation of the corporation "Schneider Electric" for cooperation and assistance.
As reported by ArmInfo, on February 4 of this year turbine generator was delivered to the Armenian nuclear power plant. This is the second turbine generator, which is supplied to the ANPP during the year as part of the project to modernize and extend the life of the plant. This new generation equipment will allow increasing the plant efficiency and increasing electricity production. The first was delivered in 2017 and has already replaced the turbine generator that has run out the term, operating since the late 1970s. "After upgrading the equipment at the ANPP, which also involves replacing turbines, transformers, power supply systems, capacitors, restoring cooling towers, with the same amount of fuel consumed, we will generate energy 40 MW higher than the current level. Increasing the efficiency will make it possible to reduce costs per unit of generated electricity, which is extremely important for stabilizing selling prices, "noted the General Director of the Armenian NPP Movses Vardanyan. The installation of the second turbogenerator will be carried out in 2019, as part of a complex of installation and commissioning works in the machine room of the station (according to the general project of modernization of power generation systems). These works started in April 2018 and will last until the end of 2019. In parallel with the work in the engine room in 2019, work will begin to improve the safety of the main station systems. The turbogenerator refers to large-sized equipment, so the transportation took place in several stages. The equipment was first delivered to Antwerp, where a special crane vessel was waiting, capable of independently loading and unloading this heavy equipment (Poti port cranes cannot lift such heavy equipment). Then the cargo proceeded to the port of Poti, and from there several batches to the Armenian NPP via the railway, which was specially repaired by the South-Caucasian Railway company. The main objectives of the project to extend the life of the 2nd unit of the Armenian NPP are the restoration of the resource and the extension of the plant to 10 years, improving the safety and efficiency of NPPs. All work on the project will be completed by the end of 2021.
