ArmInfo.Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan is confident that a consensus will be reached around the draft amendments to the Tax Code. He stated this on March 18 in an interview with journalists. A package of amendments to the Tax Code has already been submitted to the National Assembly.
"The package is quite voluminous, many issues are raised, conversations and discussions continue, the package has already been handed over to the National Assembly and discussions will continue there," said the Deputy Prime Minister. To the remark that the economist MPs of the parliamentary "My step" faction noted the shortcomings in the draft law, Tigran Avinyan answered: "The legislative package is a rather extensive document and there are details that were discussed in the government for a long time and were approved. I do not exclude that these discussions will continue also in the National Assembly, but I am confident that we will come to a consensus decision. " When asked whether this Tax Code is revolutionary, Tigran Avinyan answered: "This is a code that has been waiting for business for a long time, and I am convinced that it will have a positive impact on the economy".
On March 7, at the regular meeting of the Cabinet, the Government of Armenia approved the draft amendments "On amendments and additions to the Tax Code of the Republic of Armenia". As expected, following the adoption of the document in the long term, it will provide an additional 0.8 percentage points. GDP growth, additional consumption growth will be 0.3-0.4 percentage points, and employment - approximately 0.5 percentage points. Discussions of the presented document lasted more than six months. The draft amendment to the current Tax Code from 2016 was posted on e-draft.am in November 2018. At the same time, the initiators of tax changes, responding to the concerns of the expert community, later stated in the Ministry of Finance of Armenia, finalized the document and resubmitted it to the public in January of this year.
