ArmInfo.  Over the next 2-3  years, the volume of brandy production in Armenia will decrease,  chairman of the Union of winemakers of the Republic of Armenia Avag  Harutyunyan stated in an interview with ArmInfo. The expert  determined his opinion by the policy of the government, which will be  aimed at withdrawing from the market unfair producers of this noble  drink and completely eliminating counterfeit.

At the same time, Arutyunyan noted that in the future we should  expect a sharp jump in brandy production, since, as he explained,  manufacturers will have high-quality competitive products.A  completely different picture will be observed in the wine industry of  Armenia. According to him, the next 5 years we must expect a  continuous dynamic growth of wine production, after which the  situation will stabilize and the growth will not be so intense.  According to him, Armenian winemakers will face two main challenges -  limited land resources and the need for a serious struggle with  phylloxera."Because of phylloxera, we need to plant vineyards with  American roots, then we will be vaccinated. That is, it will require  significant resources, which the farms simply do not have. According  to him, today about 15 thousand hectares of vineyards need  reconstruction, as many need to be planted again.To break a vineyard  with an area of 1 ha today costs $ 40,000. 

 

Returning to the history of winemaking in Armenia after independence,  Harutyunyan noted that wine he said.But at the same time, he noted that  wine exports are growing mainly due to the diaspora.

Therefore, manufacturers have no special motivation to improve the  quality and competitiveness of their products. In this vein,  Harutyunyan noted that the diaspora is represented by an average of 3  million families who have enough friendly ties to expand the  "audience of fans" of Armenian wines if they would be at a  qualitatively high level. "Thus, we have quite large opportunities  and a wide untapped sales potential," he concluded.
