ArmInfo.Ecology Minister Eric Grigoryan proposes to exempt from VAT imports of electric vehicles. He stated this at the parliamentary discussions of the government's legislative initiative "On Making Addendums and Amendments to the Tax Code of Armenia".
The Minister noted that the initiative offers to bring these privileges until January 1, 2022. This initiative does not apply to cars with hybrid engines.
"The goal of this initiative is environmental, it is aimed at reducing the level of environmental pollution," the minister stressed. According to him, the use of electric vehicles in the world is growing rapidly due to their diversity and comparative environmental safety.
Grigoryan noted that in Armenia, unlike in other European countries, the import of electric vehicles is very limited. In the same neighboring Georgia, according to the minister, the number of electric vehicles is much higher. "In Georgia, the number of such vehicles exceeds 4.000, and in general they are exempted from all types of taxes. Also, the government of the country to promote the use of electric vehicles made all gas stations for these cars free. In recent years, no more than 20-30 electric vehicles were imported to Armenia. The adoption of this project is not only of environmental, but also of economic and social importance ", - concluded the Minister.
