ArmInfo. By April 1, 2019, the population of Armenia amounted to 2.962 million people, having decreased from the beginning of the year by 0.1% or 3.2 thousand people, and compared to the same period last year by 0.3% or 7.8 thousand people. The data of the RA Statistical Committee testify to this.
According to the source, the urban population at the reporting date was 1.894 million people, which is 63.9% of the total number of citizens, and 1.068 million people or 36.1% lived in the villages. The number of urban dwellers declined annually by 0.1%, and rural - by 0.6%. At the same time, over the same period, the population of Yerevan increased by 0.4%, reaching 1.081 million people, i.e. 36.5% of the total population of the country is concentrated in the capital.
According to statistics, the most densely populated are the two regions close to the capital - Armavir (263.8 thousand people) and Ararat (256.6 thousand people). Further follow: Kotayk (251.4 thousand), Shirak (232.7 thousand), Gegharkunik (227.8 thousand) and Lori (214.9 thousand). At the reporting date, respectively, 137.3 thousand, 125.2 thousand and 122 thousand people lived in Syunik, Aragatsotn and Tavush, and the most sparsely populated area of the country is Vayots Dzor, where only 48.8 thousand people live.
