ArmInfo. Armenia, with the help of Japanese partners, will develop the production of basalt fiber, a heat-insulating material for construction, which is distinguished by great lightness and durability. On July 1 at a meeting with journalists, said the chairman of the for Urban Devopment Committee Vahagn Vermishyan.
As Vermishyan pointed out, a meeting with the Ambassador of Japan in Armenia took place the other day. According to the head of the Committee, Japanese colleagues are very advanced in the study of new technologies in this field, and Armenia can use the scientific potential of colleagues and experience for the production of basalt fiber in the republic.
"The whole world today pays enough serious attention to composite materials, and Armenia has the basis of these materials - basalt, which, believe me, is just as powerful a resource as oil and gas, since not many countries have such resources," Vermishyan said.
At the same time, Vahagn Vermishyan expressed the hope that his Japanese colleagues would assist in the construction of a plant for the production of basalt fiber. Today, a small basalt fiber production plant is already operating in Armenia. "I think if we can develop this sphere in the coming years, the production of basalt fiber can be a good basis for Armenia to develop a new industrial sector," Vermishyan concluded.
Earlier, on May 23, during the government meeting, Vahagn Vermishyan reported that the Chinese company TEDA expressed interest in the production of building materials based on local raw materials, which announced the possibility to invest several tens of millions of dollars in production. "They are very excited about the meeting of the Prime Minister of Armenia with the leadership of China and want to work in our country," Vermishyan added.
