ArmInfo. Armenia considers Japan as one of the target markets for agricultural exports. This was stated by Deputy Minister of Economy of the Republic of Armenia Artak Qamalyan during a meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Armenia Jun Yamada. This is stated in the official message of the department.
The deputy minister, informing the Ambassador about the project <Strategies for Sustainable Development of the Agricultural Sector of Armenia (Vision 2029)> being developed at the ministry, presented the main provisions and target directions of the document. In this regard, he emphasized that one of the main goals of the strategy is to expand the geography of export markets for agricultural products and diversify target countries.
Then, the parties discussed the "Agricultural Policy Monitoring and Assessment Capabilities Development Program" planned in the near future, which will be implemented with funding from the Government of Japan through the World Bank and aimed at improving the monitoring and data collection tools in the agricultural sector. In this regard, the interlocutors discussed the possibility of creating an analytical center within the framework of this program. Emphasizing the importance of Japan's experience in collecting data in the field of agriculture, Artak Qamalyan noted that the Armenian side is open to any proposal for cooperation. It should be noted that according to the data of the Statistical Committee of the Republic of Armenia, the foreign trade turnover between Armenia and Japan in the H1 of 2019 increased by 22.6% to $ 61.6 million. In particular, exports showed an increase of 74.8%, amounting to $ 200.8 thousand, with an increase in imports by 22.5% to $ 60.8 million. For the whole of 2018, foreign trade between the countries increased by 22.2% to $ 99.4 million. At the same time, exports increased by 2.5% to $ 375.4 thousand, imports - by 22.3% to $ 99 million.
