ArmInfo.In the consumer market of Armenia in January-August 2019, a deflation of 2.3% was recorded, against a 1.2% deflation in the same period of 2018. This was triggered by a decrease in the price of food products (including alcohol and cigarettes) by 5.5%, with a rise in price of non-food products by 0.2% and an increase in tariffs for services by 0.7%. According to the Statistical Committee of the Republic of Armenia, in annual terms (compared with January-August 2018), 1.8% was recorded in the consumer market (against inflation at 2.5% a year ago), which was facilitated by a rise in price of food and non-food products by 3, 1% and 1.5%, and increase in tariffs for services by 0.2%. The average monthly decline in consumer prices in January-August 2019 was 0.3%, against the 0.2% decline a year earlier.
In August 2019, by August 2018, consumer prices increased by 0.6% due to a rise in price of food products by 0.2% and non-food products by 2.4%, while tariffs for services increased by 0.2%. Only in August 2019, a deflation of 0.4% was recorded against the background of a reduction in the price of food products by 1% and a rise in tariffs for services by 0.1%, while the prices of non-food products remained constant. In Yerevan, consumer prices fell in August 2019 by 0.4%, compared with an increase of 0.7% a year earlier. It should be noted that in August 2018, inflation at 0.6% was recorded in the consumer market of Armenia. This was due to an increase
prices for food products by 1.5%, while cheaper non-food products by 0.5% and increase in tariffs for services by 0.1%. In August 2018, by August 2017, consumer prices increased by 3.3% due to a rise in price of food products by 4.2% and non-food products by 4.9%, while tariffs for services increased by 0.9%. In January-August 2018, a deflation of 1.2% was recorded (against a 1.8% deflation in the same period of 2017) due to the reduction in the cost of food products (including alcohol and cigarettes) by 4%, while non-food products went up by 0.9% and increase in tariffs for services by 1.3%. In annual terms (compared with January-August 2017), 2.5% was recorded in the consumer market (against inflation at 0.6% a year ago), which was facilitated by a rise in prices of food and non-food products by 2.3% and 4, respectively. 9%, and increase in tariffs for services by 1.4%.
