ArmInfo. The services of the Yerevan Zvartnots airport are cheaper in the daytime than at night. On December 3, Tatevik Revazyan, Chairwoman of the Civil Aviation Committee of the Republic of Armenia stated this from the rostrum of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, responding to the corresponding remark of the deputies of the Armenian parliament.
As the head of the Committee noted, the airport is making efforts to service liners in the daytime, but the lack of transit facilities at this time of the day is holding back the airline. For them, as Tatevik Revazyan noted, it is more profitable to carry out transit flights than direct flights.
Earlier, ArmInfo reported that the International Airports of Armenia company will invest $ 38.2 million in the modernization of Zvartnots airports in Yerevan and Shirak in Gyumri. According to the master plan of the concessionaire represented by Argentina Corporation Corporation, due to projected growth the passenger flow will require investments to expand the runway, equip additional aircraft hangars, upgrade the apron cover, and modernize the lighting systems. In particular, the length of the runway will be increased to 2850 meters, and the width - up to 45 meters. It is also planned to lay 12 km of fiber-optic communication cables and install the latest video surveillance systems. It is planned to modernize the apron at the Shirak airport, a part of the airfield for receiving aircraft with a higher carrying capacity, which will allow for takeoffs and landings by Boeing and Airbus class aircraft. In total, an area of 22 thousand square meters is to be modernized.
Recall that in December 2001, the Armenian government signed with the Argentine company, Corporation America, owned by Eduardo Ernekyan, on concession management of Zvartnots airport for a period of 30 years. Later, a similar agreement was signed with regard to the Shirak airport. As of today, the total investment in the modernization of two airports has exceeded $ 160 million.
