ArmInfo. "I would describe the outgoing 2019 as a year of economic disappointment," member of the ARF "Dashnaktsutyun", former Minister of Agriculture Artur Khachatryan stated on December 23 at the discussion "Economy in 2019: Results and Concerning Trends."
According to Khachatryan, despite the fact that the economic revolution was announced at the beginning of the year, but by the end of the year it has not actually happened.
At the same time, as the ex-minister of agriculture pointed out, there were positive changes, in particular, in the field of tax administration, which led to an increase in budget revenues. Armenia also recorded growth in tourism and high technology. "In other sectors, growth has slowed," he said.
At the same time, as Khachatryan pointed out, it is not clear that recorded economic growth is the result of economic growth, or a minimization of the shadow economy. In addition, the expert would like to see a list of monopolistic companies that have ceased to be such. For him, the wording that so often sounds from the authorities about the eradication of systemic corruption is also incomprehensible.
To note, according to the Statistical Committee of the Republic of Armenia, the growth of economic activity in January-October 2019 accelerated to 7.1% from 6% for 10 months of 2018, while GDP growth for 9 months of 2019 was fixed at 7.5%. According to the forecasts of the Ministry of Economy, the final indicator of economic activity for 2019 will be slightly more than 7%, and GDP growth will be even greater. According to the forecasts of the Ministry of Finance, Armenia will close the 2019 with economic growth in the range of 6.9-7.1%. Earlier, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced expectations of economic growth up to 7% and higher.
