ArmInfo. In 2020, Armenia will become a regional leader in terms of GDP per capita. This is stated in the next report of the International Monetary Fund, published the day before.
According to the source, in 2019 the volume of GDP per capita in Armenia amounted to $ 4.53 thousand. For example, in Georgia this indicator is $ 4.29 thousand, in Azerbaijan - $ 4.69 thousand. According to the forecast, this year the volume of GDP of Armenia per capita will increase up to $ 4.76 thousand. Nevertheless, IMF analysts believe that in the medium term until 2024 Armenia will yield to Georgia in this indicator, which is evidence of existing problems in Armenia's long-term development programs. It should be noted that Mitsuhiro Furusawa, Deputy Managing Director and Acting Chairman of the IMF Executive Council, said on December 20 that Armenia's economic performance is strong with healthy growth, low inflation, a stable financial system and improved external and tax buffers. In addition, he indicated that the public debt was delayed in a downtrend, and Armenia is expected to reach the medium- term target several years earlier than expected. "This stimulating factor will allow us to direct more efforts towards reforms in support of more balanced and inclusive growth, reduction of poverty and unemployment," Furusawa said.
It should be noted that according to the IMF forecast, the GDP growth of Armenia in 2019 will amount to 4.6%. Meanwhile, the recently updated WB forecast for Armenia's GDP growth in 2019 improved to 6.9% from the previous 5.5%. And according to actual statistical data, in January-November 2019, an acceleration in the annual growth of economic activity in Armenia from 5.7% to 7.5% is already recorded. On December 6 last year, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan noted that in 2019, per capita GDP of Armenia for the first time exceeded the indicators of neighboring Georgia, and in 2020 the republic will outstrip Azerbaijan in this indicator. "Over the past 20 years, Armenia has always been the last on this indicator, next year we will be the first," Nikol Pashinyan assured.
