ArmInfo. In Armenia, trade turnover in January 2020 versus the same period of 2019 slowed down the annual growth rate from 19.3% to 10.3%, amounting to 207.3 billion drams ($ 432.6 million).
According to the RA Statcommittee, this trend is due to a sharp slowdown in the growth of wholesale trade turnover, a modest increase in retail trade turnover, with a significant acceleration in the growth of automobile trade.
In particular, wholesale trade in January showed an annual growth of 8.8% to 95.3 billion drams, against a growth of 31.4% a year earlier. The volume of car purchase / sale in January increased by 33.2% y-o-y, against an increase of 11.3% a year earlier, amounting to 9.2 billion drams. And the retail turnover in January 2020 compared to the same period of 2019 slowed down growth from 10.3% to 10.1%, amounting to 102.8 billion drams.
In the structure of retail trade, the largest turnover is provided by shops (including supermarkets) - 76.7% or 78.9 billion drams (with a y-o-y growth of 11.7%), other retail facilities - 15.1% or 15.5 billion drams (with y-o-y growth of 3.9%), followed by consumer goods markets with a margin of 5.2% or 5.3 billion (with y-o-y growth of 14%), stalls and kiosks - 2.3% or 2.4 billion ( with y-o-y growth of 3.1%) and agricultural markets - 0.7% or 712.4 million (with y-o-y decline of 18.3%).
According to the results of January 2020, retail trade dominates in the structure of the total trade turnover of Armenia - 49.6%, the wholesale share is 45.9%, and the remaining 4.5% is for the purchase / sale of cars.
The average calculated exchange rate of dram to US dollar in January 2020 was 479.21 AMD/$ 1, against 485.79 AMD/$ 1 in January 2019.
