So, according to the company's message posted on Facebook, at the Bagratashen checkpoint (Armenian- Georgian border, Ed.) already 12 consecutive days for hundreds of cars have been waiting for permission to transit through Georgian territory to enter Russia.
"So, on March 23, 50 cars were registered and drove into Georgia for transit to Russia, but their movement there was stopped without explanation. In addition, more than 100 cars of the company (2100 tons of cargo) loaded with fresh vegetables, the expiry of which is 6 days, they continue to be at Bagratashen checkpoint. Upon arrival in Russia, the losses will already be 50%, which is estimated at $ 2 million. The issue needs to be addressed immediately, "Spayka warns.
It should be noted that due to bad weather conditions, the passage along the Georgian military road connecting Armenia with Russia was closed for several days. The road opened on the evening of March 21. And due to restrictions, in connection with measures introduced by the Georgian authorities to prevent the spread of a new type of coronavirus, transit through Georgia was stopped until the road opened.
The Georgian authorities assured that as soon as the road to the Upper Lars checkpoint opens, there will be no obstacles to cargo transportation and trucks will pass through the Armenian-Georgian checkpoint. Meanwhile, the Armenian freight carriers have been complaining all day for the impossibility of delivering their products to Russia due to restrictions imposed by Georgia.
