ArmInfo. The South Caucasus Railway Company continues to provide the Armenian economy with stabile railway services. In the I quarter of this year, the company transported 708 thousand tons of cargo in local and external traffic, which is 8.6% more than the corresponding figure in 2019, the company's press service said.
According to the source, despite the difficulties with the transit of automobile goods in Georgia, rail transportation through this country is carried out without interruption. In the import traffic, SCR provides transportation of strategic cargoes such as grain and oil products.
Employees of the company continue to provide the transportation process, taking into account all measures taken by the commandant and emergency requirements, introduced by the Armenian government on March 16 this year. The company's enterprises have introduced all the sanitary and epidemiological standards required by the commandant.
In coordination with the supervising government body, the company imposed some restrictions on passenger transportation by canceling the Yerevan-Tbilisi-Yerevan international train and the fast electric trains between Yerevan and Gyumri. With the cancellation of intercity road transport and reduced passenger traffic, the company continues to provide intercity passenger services in the directions Yerevan- Gyumri-Yerevan, Gyumri-Yerevan-Gyumri, Yerevan-Eraskh-Yerevan and Yerevan-Araks-Yerevan.
SCR will continue to responsibly fulfill its contractual obligations to the Republic of Armenia during this difficult period in full and in accordance with the requirements of the state of emergency imposed by the government on March 16.
South Caucasus Railway CJSC is a 100% subsidiary of Russian Railways OJSC and provides concession management of Armenian railways. The railway infrastructure of Armenia was transferred to the concession management of SCR CJSC in accordance with the Concession Agreement signed on February 13, 2008. The concession management period is 30 years with the right to extend for another 10 years.
