Gegham Gevorgyan: Setting the prices by the SCPEC will lead to a  "black" market

ArmInfo."If we begin to dictate prices, I assure you that in 5 minutes a" black "market will emerge," said Gegham Gevorgyan, Chairman of the State Commission for  the Protection of Economic Competition of the Republic of Armenia  (SCPEC), during a meeting of the Standing Committee on Economic  Affairs on April 7.

In this regard, he recalled the recent situation when the SCPEC  strictly urged economic entities not to raise prices for medical  masks, after which the latter resorted to "black" trade. "As a  result, it was revealed that about 70 thousand medical masks were  sold in this way," said Gevorgyan, once again recalling that the  authority of the SCPEC does not include price regulation.

At the same time, he noted that in the domestic market there is still  a certain increase in prices, which is mainly associated with an  increase in exchange rates and import prices. <Much has been said  about double price increases. I assure you, there is no such thing in  Armenia. If there is evidence, submit it to the SCPEC and we will  certainly consider these statements>, said Gevorgyan.

In this vein, he recalled that every day the SCPEC, together with  employees of the regional municipalities, monitors 44 product markets  in Yerevan and the regions. <We constantly monitor the dynamics, send  requests to the SRC. In addition, in each retail facility, we have a  responsible person who provides prices at which goods were purchased.  If we see reasons for concern, then we initiate processes according  to the relevant facts>, - he noted.
