Head of SCPEC: There is no price shock in Armenia

Head of SCPEC: There is no price shock in Armenia

ArmInfo. There is no price shock in Armenia. This was stated by Gegham Gevorgyan, Chairman of the State Commission for the Protection of Economic Competition (SCPEC) of the Republic of Armenia on April 9 at a government meeting.

According to him, the Commission conducted monitoring in large retail  chains in Yerevan and the regions, according to the results of which  it turned out that price fluctuations ranged from 1 to 4 percent.   Moreover, if in March of the current year for some products prices  increased slightly, then already in April a tendency towards their  decrease began to be observed. So, if in February 1 kilogram of sugar  cost 255 drams, then by April 8 the cost of the product was 230  drams. At the same time, in 2018 sugar cost 338 drams per kilogram.

The same picture is observed with oil prices, 1 kg of the latter in  February was worth 2730 drams, but by April 8 it had risen to 3090  drams. Meanwhile, in 2018 1 kg of oil was worth 4430 drams.  Price  fluctuations, as noted by the head of the Commission, indicate  increased competition in the market.  This is also evidenced by the  data obtained from gas stations where 1 liter of  "regular" petrol  currently costs 310 drams, <premium> petrol 330 drams, and a liter of  diesel fuel - 370 drams. For comparison, in 2018 a liter of petrol  costs 450-470 drams, diesel fuel - 460 drams. Gegham Gevorgyan  emphasized that the administrative proceedings of the Commission deal  with the markets for sugar, eggs and butter, it is also planned to  conduct research in the markets of vegetable oil, chicken and flour.
