ArmInfo.Ara Khachatryan was appointed as the new General Director of one of the leading telecommunication companies of Armenia - Ucom. According to the company's press service, this decision was made on April 14 at an extraordinary meeting of the Board of Governors convened urgently in connection with the resignation of the former director Hayk Yesayan.
According to the report, before being appointed to this position, Ara Khachatryan was a member of the Board of Governors of Ucom since December 25, 2019. REFERENCE: Ara Khachatryan graduated from YSU with a bachelor's degree in economics. Received a master's degree at the London <Business School> (Great Britain), and an MBA degree at Columbia University <Business School> in New York (USA). He has professional qualifications from international financial and management institutions. During his work, he held key positions in the international companies PWC, Baker Tilly, Path, and in recent years he worked in the Galaxy group of companies. He teaches at the American University of Armenia. He is a member of the Advisory Board for Continuing Education of this university.
To note, on April 14, the Ucom Board of Governors dismissed Hayk Yesayan, CEO of the company. In particular, the company's message noted: "In the future, to ensure smooth operation, together with the new CEO, the company plans to make investments and attract new opportunities. There are no plans to reduce staff, especially in the current situation in the country where communications play an extremely important role. Ucom will continue remain the Armenian communications provider. " To recall, on April 13, information about the dismissal of more than 500 employees who allegedly wrote a letter of resignation in connection with the dismissal of Hayk Yesayan, who, together with his brother, owns 5.94% of the company's shares, was actively spread in the media on April 13 by now the former management of the company. However, on April 14 in the morning the media received a letter from Ucom employees, in which the latter denied information about the mass dismissal of personnel. Hayk Yesayan in a letter explained the reason for his departure by disagreements between him and Gurgen Khachatryan (head of the Board of Directors of the company).
It is noted that Yesayan offered to buy shares in the company belonging to him and his brother, or to buy shares from other co-owners for AMD 22 billion, and after a couple of days raising the "rate" to 34 billion. He was refused. Moreover, Yesayan said that his decision to leave the company was motivated by the fact that his candidacy was not considered as the head of the company after the possible merger of Ucom and Beeline Armenia. Negotiations are ongoing between the Galaxy group, which includes Ucom, and the international company VEON, on the future development of the combined company. The merger case is pending in the antimonopoly department of Armenia.
