
ArmInfo.The World Bank continues to be one of Armenia's key partners. RA Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan stated yesterday during a video - conference with the newly appointed WB Vice President for Europe and Central Asia Anna Bjerde.
The video communication, as the press service of the Government of the Republic of Armenia reports, also involved WB Vice President Cyril Muller, Minister of Finance Atom Janjughazyan, Minister of Economy Tigran Khachatryan and Deputy Chairman of the Central Bank of the Republic of Armenia Nerses Yeritsyan. Deputy Prime Minister thanked Cyril Muller for the great work done and noted that it was an honor for him to collaborate with a person with such deep knowledge and professional skills, emphasizing that he will always be a friend of Armenia. In his turn, Mher Grigoryan congratulated Anna Bjerde on her appointment and wished her fruitful and productive work in a responsible position.
During the video - communication, the Armenian side presented the WB delegation with measures aimed at neutralizing socio-economic consequences of the COVID-19 epidemic, noting that they are constantly being improved through consultations with the World Bank, are becoming more focused and effective. Cyril Muller praised the efforts of the government to prevent the spread of coronavirus and neutralize its effects on the population and the economy. Newly appointed vice president Anna Bjerde noted that the World Bank is ready to continue to support the government at this important stage.
The interlocutors exchanged views on the challenges facing Armenia in the economic field and ways to overcome them. Earlier, ArmInfo reported that the Board of Executive Directors of the World Bank Group approved the Country Partnership Framework (CPF) document with Armenia to provide a $ 500 million loan in 2019-2023 to support stable and inclusive growth and improve living standards in the country. At the request of the Ministry of Health of Armenia, the World Bank allocated $ 3 million to Armenia to meet urgent needs for the purchase of equipment and materials necessary for intensive care of persons with confirmed coronavirus. These funds will help to purchase 50 mechanical ventilation devices worth $ 1.35 million under the current program "Prevention and Control of Diseases." Since 1992, the WB has provided loans and grants to Armenia totaling about $ 2.4 billion.
