Deputy Prime Minister: Armenian GDP decline in March of this year  turned out to be lower than forecasted

ArmInfo. 4.9% decline in Armenia's GDP in March this year can be considered a good indicator, given the impact that coronavirus had on the economy of the country  and around the world. On May 14, Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan  stated this from the rostrum of the National Assembly of the Republic  of Armenia.

According to him, the expected decline in GDP was supposed to be  higher. In y-o-y terms, the positive dynamics of economic activity is  still maintained, since in the previous months the country recorded a  significant increase in economic activity, which amounted to 8.7% in  the first two months of 2020.

The Deputy Prime Minister also said that over 1 billion drams had  already been collected on a special account of the state treasury. He  stated that attention to the fund has weakened, as transfers have  been significantly reduced.

The Deputy Prime Minister also emphasized that from mid-June it is  planned that Armenia will resume air communication with other  countries. But all arriving without extension will be sent to  self-isolation.  Violation of this condition threatens with severe  sanctions and fines.

In order to combat the virus, yesterday the Ministry of Health was  allocated an additional 1 billion drams to resolve current issues. In  order to successfully confront the coronavirus, active cooperation  has developed with partners - Russia, China, Georgia, Iran. Avinyan  added that from May 25, wearing medical masks and gloves will become  mandatory throughout the country. But taking into account the fact  that the work of public transport will resume from May 18, it will  also be necessary to use protective masks when entering it.
