Armenian Ambassador and Iranian Oil Minister discuss Armenian-Iranian  gas program in exchange for electricity

ArmInfo.Armenia's Ambassador to Iran Artashes Tumanyan at a meeting with Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh noted that construction of the third power  transmission line between the two countries will be completed this  year, which will make it possible to fully use the capabilities of  the Armenian-Iranian gas pipeline, increasing several times volumes  of gas imported into Armenia and electricity in Iran.

As ArmInfo was informed in the press service of the RA Embassy in  Iran, in this regard, Tumanyan emphasized the need to urgently adopt  a new agreement (or amend it) on the gas exchange program for  electricity, noting that the relevant proposals of the Armenian side  were submitted to the Iranian Oil Ministry a few months ago.   At the same time, the Armenian diplomat emphasized that, with the  proper organization of work, the Iran-Armenia gas pipeline could be  favorably different in terms of reliability and efficiency from the  Iranian joint gas pipelines with other neighboring countries.  According to him, this, in turn, can become an additional incentive  for deepening bilateral cooperation in this area.

The interlocutors touched on issues of enhancing trade between the  two countries, including through the introduction of various  mechanisms of trade.

The interlocutors agreed to organize a videoconference between the  Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of the  Republic of Armenia and the Ministry of Oil of Iran, during which the  parties agree on the provisions of the agreement on the gas program  in exchange for electricity, and discuss other issues of bilateral  economic cooperation.

It should be noted that Armenia is carrying out a barter deal with  Iran "gas in exchange for electricity" at the rate of 1 cubic meter  of blue fuel from Iran in exchange for 3 kWh of electricity from  Armenia. Gas is supplied through the Iran-Armenia gas pipeline, and  electricity from Armenia is sent through two power lines to Iran.
