ArmInfo.Armenal aluminium foil-rolling mill in Yerevan (part of RUSAL) has completely switched to a closed water circulation system. As a result, the company's water consumption decreased by about 90%. This was reported by the press service of the plant.
According to the source, the commissioning of two new unite-type cooling towers as part of the technical re-equipment program provided all rolling mills and compressor facilities with technical water. Two similar cooling towers are already used for cooling melting furnaces and units of continuous rolling. "The closed water circuit project is one of the most significant at ARMENAL in recent years. It guarantees 100% protection of production from external interruptions in water supply and minimizes the consumption of process water," Armenal General Director Arthur Zakaryan said.
At the development stage, the implemented project was discussed at open hearings with the participation of representatives of the Ministry of Nature Protection, Yerevan Municipality and the public, the results of which gave a positive assessment of its environmental impact (EIA).
Since 2000, Armenal aluminium foil-rolling mill has been a part of RUSAL United Company's packaging division. It is one of the largest industrial enterprises in Armenia and the only producer of aluminum foil in the Caucasus and Central Asia. It was created on the basis of the Kanaker aluminum plant, commissioned in 1950.
