Within the framework of the program for the modernization of irrigation systems in Armenia, the works on construction of gravity irrigation systems  in Tsitsernakaberd and Artashat have been completed. The press  service of the RA Ministry of Territorial Administration and  Infrastructures reported.

According to the source, the project is being implemented with loans  from the Eurasian Development Bank. A gravity irrigation system has  been built in Tsitsernakaberd, a metal pipeline with a length of  2,330 meters has been laid. As a result of the operation of the  facility, 192 hectares of land will be irrigated by gravity, with  water supply with a capacity of 126 l / s, about 0.5 million kWh of  electricity or about 24 million drams will be saved annually. The  volume of investments in this project amounted to 155.9 million  drams. The fifth gravity irrigation system from the Artashat canal  was also built. A fiberglass pipeline with a length of 3922 meters  has been laid, as a result of which 520 hectares of land will be  irrigated by gravity, water will be supplied with a capacity of 397l/s, about 1.3 million kWh of electricity will be saved annually,  which will save about 59 million drams per year. 287.1 million drams  have been invested in this program.

To note, the total volume of investments in 7 components of the  program, financed from funds raised from the Eurasian Development  Bank with co-financing from the RA government, is $ 50 million. After  the completion of the project, 11.8 million kilowatt-hours of  electricity will be saved annually in Armenia, operating costs will  be reduced by 300 million drams per year, the area of irrigated land  will increase by 10.5 thousand hectares. 8 pumping stations will be  decommissioned, 64.2 km of canals will be restored, and the number of  beneficiaries will exceed 115 thousand.
