ArmInfo.The volume of dollar transactions in the foreign exchange interbank of Armenia from September 22 to September 25, 2020, decreased by 34.8%, after growing by 55.6% in the previous week (September 14-18). At the same time, in the intrabank foreign exchange market during the reporting week, dollar-denominated transactions went into decline, in euro transactions, purchases fell into recession amid a slowdown in sales growth, and in ruble transactions, the growth in purchases slowed down while sales entered growth. The exchange currency platform continues to be idle. As a result, from September 22 to 25, the dram continued to revaluate against the dollar - from 485.5 to 485 AMD / $ 1, maintaining the same trend towards the euro - from 575.5 to 565.5 AMD / 1 EUR, while intending to revalue against the ruble - from 6.5 to 6.3 AMD/ 1 RUB. A year earlier, as of September 25, 2019, the AMD exchange rate against the dollar was 476 AMD / $ 1, against the euro - 523 AMD / 1 EUR, and against the ruble - 7.5 AMD / 1 RUB, which, in comparison with the current exchange rates, indicates the y-o-y devaluation of the AMD against the dollar and euro, in case of revaluation against the ruble.
As ArmInfo was told in the press service of the RA Central Bank, during the reporting period (September 22-25), dollar transactions were carried out in the amount of $ 10.850 million at the weighted average rate of 485.64 AMD / $ 1 (versus 485.18 AMD / $ 1 in the previous period). The foreign exchange interbank, having worked daily during the reporting week (except for holiday Monday), distinguished itself by a significant volume of transactions on Thursday - $ 4.8 million. The sale of the dollar changed the trend from 15.8-3.5% growth to 5.6-1% decline, the purchase of the euro reversed from 53.5% growth to 20.3% decline with a slowdown in sales growth from 11% to 8.2%, and in ruble transactions, the purchase slowed down growth from 16.7% to 2.7%, while the sales vector reversed from 2.1% decline to 72.7% growth. As a result, $ 91.4 million was purchased during the reporting week at an average rate of 484.26 AMD / $ 1, 19.2 million euros at an average rate of 566.35 AMD / 1EUR, and 1.4 billion rubles at an average rate of 6.33 AMD / 1RUB, and sold $ 86.7 million at an average rate of 486.38 AMD / $ 1, 18.5 million euros at an average rate of 571.26 AMD / 1EUR, and 1.9 billion rubles at an average rate of 6.38 AMD / 1RUB.
According to the source, from 14 to 20 September this year Armenian banks issued AMD 99.4 billion in AMD loans and USD 39.6 million in loans. Compared to the previous period (September 7-13), the trend for AMD loans reversed from 6.6% decline to 2.1-fold growth, and on dollar loans, on the contrary, the 2.2- fold growth was replaced by a 48.4% decline.
To note, in the first half of 2020, the RA Central Bank made interventions in the foreign exchange market for a total of $ 217.9 million, of which $ 90.9 million was bought (January-February and April) and $ 127 million sold (March-April), and this period AMD against the dollar from January 479.09 AMD / $ 1 reached April 493.1 AMD / $ 1 (purchase / sale). And if in January-February interventions in the foreign exchange market were exclusively for buying, and in March - only for selling, then in April the Central Bank made transactions both for buying and selling, and the volume of sales was almost 2-fold higher than the volume of purchases, which formed the course purchases at the level of 481.66 AMD / $ 1 and sales at the level of 504.45 AMD / $ 1. In May and June, the Central Bank did not perform operations on the foreign exchange market. In the first half of 2020, $ 2.168 billion and 334 million euros were purchased on the intrabank foreign exchange market, and $ 2.205 billion and 490.3 million euros were sold. In the first half of 2020, USD transactions in the amount of $ 544.7 million and EUR 1.4 million (March-April) were carried out on the interbank currency market, which was accompanied by the devaluation of the AMD against the dollar from 479.36 AMD / $ 1 in January to 481.65 AMD / $ 1 in June at the exchange rate of AMD to EUR at 550.71 AMD / 1 EUR.
