ArmInfo. The countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and Iran are increasing the volume of mutual trade, despite the pandemic. According to the EEC, for 8 months of this year, the trade turnover increased by 2% and exceeded USD 2 billion.
The main contribution to the increase was made by an increase in imports from Iran by almost 230 million US dollars. From the member states of the Union, exports increased for Armenia. Agricultural products became the basis of mutual trade. Food products and agricultural raw materials accounted for about 80% (US $ 939 million) of the volume of supplies from the EAEU countries to Iran, more than half of which (US $ 609 million) accounted for grain. In turn, similar goods also accounted for most of the supplies from Iran to the Union - 68% or $ 575 million. Fruits and nuts became the main drivers of import growth from Iran.
During the year that has passed since the start of the Interim Agreement, a number of meetings of the working bodies have taken place. In particular, the first meetings of the Subcommittee on the rules for determining the country of origin of goods and the Working Group on customs cooperation were held. In addition, an exchange of views took place in the field of transport and transit.
In accordance with the provisions of the Interim Agreement and the results of the first meeting of the Joint Committee, in July, a procedure was initiated to consider a decision to start negotiations on concluding a permanent agreement between Iran and the EAEU. As of today, approvals from the Board and the Council of the Commission were received. The adoption of the necessary decision by the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council is expected by the end of this year.
