ArmInfo. 74% of arable land in the republic is not irrigated at all, said Acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan at a meeting in the Kotayk region on April 28.
According to the press service of the Prime Minister, Pashinyan, referring to statistics, noted that only 37% of arable land is cultivated in the Kotayk region. "In other words, most of the land remains uncultivated, this is a fundamental problem for both the Republic of Armenia and the Kotayk region. Only two regions of the country cultivate more than 50% of arable land - in Ararat and Armavir regions. In other regions, 50% or more of arable land is practically not cultivated", the acting prime minister said. According to him, there is a problem with informing the public about the content of the programs adopted by the government at the moment - people should know about the possibility of receiving support in the field of agriculture. He also pointed out the need to introduce new programs. Pashinyan said that in the near future a program will be introduced, under which the landowner will be exempted from paying a 5-year rent for irrigation water if he uses drip irrigation or spray water.
