ArmInfo. The State Revenue Committee (SRC) of Armenia urged citizens and businesses to refrain from trying to smuggle goods of Turkish origin banned for import into the country.
Thus, as stated in the message of the Tax and Customs Committee, recently there have been more attempts to bypass the temporary ban on the import of Turkish products, established by a government decree from June 24, 2021 No. 1048-N by removing labels to hide their country of origin.
The Committee calls on all citizens and businesses not to waste time and resources on these actions, because in any case, if the country of origin of goods at the customs border is unknown, the SRC takes appropriate actions in order to find out their true origin. "Even if there is a suspicion of the Turkish origin of the goods, its import into the territory of the Republic of Armenia will be prohibited," the SRC warns.
Recall that on October 20, 2020, the Armenian government approved the decision to introduce a 6-month embargo on the import of goods of Turkish origin. The ban on the import of Turkish goods was imposed after Turkey began providing military support to Azerbaijan during the Karabakh war in the fall of 2020. In previous years, Armenia exported goods from Turkey for $ 250-270 million a year. The embargo, which entered into force on December 31, 2020 and expires on July 1, June 24 this year has been renewed for 6 months. Presenting the project solution, acting Minister of Economy Vahan Kerobyan explained that according to the relevant provision of the agreement "On the Eurasian Economic Union", one country, without agreement with the rest, cannot prohibit imports from third countries for a period of more than 6 months.
