ArmInfo. In 2021, the investments of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in Armenia were a record-breaking- $175 million. This became known following the meeting of Minister of Economy of Armenia Vahan Kerobyan with the Bank's delegation headed by Regional Director Catarina Bjorlin Hansen . As Vahan Kerobyan wrote on his Facebook page, out of the indicated amount, only $20 million falls on public programs, the remaining amount was directed to the development of the private sector.
At the same time, the Minister pointed to the growth of the non-financial sector. The EBRD is the leading institutional investor in Armenia. As of September 2021 and since the start of operations in Armenia (since 1992), the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development has invested 1.56 billion euros in the implementation of 191 programs in the financial, corporate, infrastructure, and energy sectors. Moreover, 91% of these investments are directed to the development of private entrepreneurship. It should be recalled that earlier, in an interview with an ArmInfo correspondent Head of EBRD Armenia Office Dimitri Gvindadze, said that in 2020 the Bank (EBRD) implemented programs in Armenia totaling 160 million euros. In particular, he noted that over 90% of EBRD programs in Armenia are in the private sector, but there are also projects in the financial sector, energy, infrastructure, etc.
