Babken Tunyan: The increase in electricity tariffs was a necessary  measure

ArmInfo. The increase in electricity tariffs in Armenia had objective reasons - this is not someone's desire, but the absence of an alternative. A similar  opinion was expressed by MP from the "Civil Contract" party, head of  the permanent parliamentary commission on economic issues, Babken  Tunyan.

Referring to the statement of head of the Central Bank Martin  Gastyan, the parliamentarian noted that the increase in the price of  electricity will have an upward effect on the general level of  inflation in the country by 1-1.5 percentage points. "This is not to  say that this is a big impact, but for vulnerable groups it is  certainly an additional burden. Therefore, the government will not  raise tariffs for socially disadvantaged groups of the population,"  he said.

It should be noted that since February 1, the tariff for electricity  in Armenia has increased by an average of 4.7 drams. An exception  will be made for socially unprotected segments of the population.  According to the PSRC, they make up 11% of all households. The daily  tariff for them, as before, will be 29.99 drams, the night one -  19.99 drams.
