ArmInfo.Armenian Finance Minister Tigran Khachatryan received the delegation of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), led by Head of EBRD Armenia Office Dimitri Gvindadze.
During the meeting, the parties touched upon the key areas of cooperation with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, in particular, the development of the "green economy" in Armenia, increasing the competitiveness of the private sector, improving governance, promoting reforms in the business sector, and also highlighted the agenda items related to infrastructure development.
In his speech, Minister Khachatryan stressed the importance of cooperation with the Bank in these areas. In this context, he emphasized the need for effective implementation of infrastructure programs that are of key importance for sustainable development, and measures aimed at improving the investment climate in the country.
The EBRD is the leading institutional investor in Armenia. As of September 2021 and since the start of operations in Armenia (since 1992), the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development has invested 1.56 billion euros in the implementation of 191 programs in the financial, corporate, infrastructure, and energy sectors. Moreover, 91% of these investments are directed to the development of private entrepreneurship.
At the end of 2021, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development invested $175 million in Armenia.
It should be recalled that earlier, in an interview with an ArmInfo correspondent, the Head of EBRD Armenia Office Dimitri Gvindadze, said that in 2020 the Bank (EBRD) implemented programs in Armenia totaling 160 million euros. In particular, he noted that over 90% of EBRD programs in Armenia are in the private sector, but there are also projects in the financial sector, energy, infrastructure, etc.
