Everything is under control: Head of Competition Protection  Commission of Armenia on possible price fluctuations in egg market on  eve of Easter

ArmInfo. There is currently a surplus in the Armenian egg market, Chairperson of the Competition Protection Commission (CPC) Gegham Gevorgyan said at a government  meeting on March 3, assuring that there are enough stocks to not fix  price fluctuations on the eve of Easter.

"This year the case for the egg market was a special one, as the  price reduction was made by small businesses, whose share does not  exceed 5%. The market reacted in a chain reaction The market reacted  with a chain reaction. As for the prices of eggs in the run-up to  Easter, let me say that we can control large economic entities.   Within two years, our enterprises realized that the evidence base is  good enough, " Gevorgyan said.

According to him, there is currently an excess of eggs on the market,  which has reduced sales volumes, which leads to a decrease in prices.  "Now we are discussing with the Ministry of Economy and poultry  farmers the issue of directing this surplus in a positive direction -  processing, export, in order to eliminate these problems  (fluctuations in egg prices ed. note)," he said.  The head of the CPC  also touched upon changes in the poultry and chicken market. He  pointed out that stocks of chicken meat are growing in the world,  while domestic consumption of the product is growing, which leads to  its shortage in the world.

"In Armenia, the geography of imports has now changed. If earlier the  bulk of imports came from Ukraine, now, for obvious reasons, goods  will be imported from the United States and Brazil," Gevorgyan said.   He recalled that the government recently decided to introduce quotas  for both local producers and importers. According to him, since the  level of self-sufficiency in chicken meat in Armenia is 30-35%,  future investors will not have problems with the sale of products.
