Upper Lars checkpoint`s capacity 50% up

ArmInfo. The Upper Lars checkpoint's capacity has increased 50% over the last week, Armenia's Minister of Economy Vahan Kerobyan said in an interview with the  Public TV of Armenia.

The problem, however, has not been resolved, and Armenia continues  negotiations with its Russian and Georgian partners.

In the context of recent developments (Russian-Ukrainian conflict)  the Upper Lars checkpoint is overloaded as cargoes from Europe cannot  transit Ukraine and Belarus, and the design capacity of the  checkpoint did not enable it to serve so many trucks.

About 250 Armenian trucks go via the checkpoint instead of 170  before. However, the capacity could have been higher if the  management system were more efficient, Mr Kerobyan said.

Speaking of achievements, the minister pointed out the opening of a  second customs zone as a result of negotiations with the Russian and  Georgian partners.
