ArmInfo. The traders working at the Surmalu shopping center would not face problems now if they had insured their businesses, Armenia's Minister of Economy Vahan Kerobyan told reporters on Wednesday.
"Those who insured their businesses will receive compensations from insurance companies. The government is not supposed to compensate for damages caused by thee blast and fire on August 14. It is insurance companies' that are supposed to do it. If a businessman did not insure his risks, the government has nothing to do," the minister said.
However, the government officials in charge of social affairs are dealing with the problem.
"In any case, Armenia's business must adopt high standards and, when necessary, insure their circulating assets and immovable property. They are supposed to do it instead of expecting the government to rectify their mistakes," the minister said.
The government will not compensate for the damages the businesses suffered.
Mr Kerobyan recalled the premier's numerous statements on universal standards.
"Progress can hardly be expected without respect for laws and standards. What eels can be expected if people keep on smoking in cafes, which us a gross violation of the law? Such conduct cannot ensure our nation's progress, which is necessary for the region's stable and peaceful development," Mr Kerobyan said.
