Armenia`s government allocates about $20.7mln for construction of  Armenian section of alternative highway

ArmInfo.Armenia's government has allocated an additional AMD 8.5bln (about $20.7mln) for the construction of the Armenian section of the highway that will serve  as an alternative to the Lachin corridor. 

On Thursday, Armenia's Cabinet approved the allocation of AMD 5.5bln  (about $13.4mln) for an 18.4-km section of the M-12 Tegh-Kornidzor  highway. 

Amid the early August escalation along the Line of Contact and Lachin  corridor, which connects Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh, Baku demanded  that the Armenian side organize a new route between Nagorno- Karabakh  and Armenia. Armenia's Minister of Territorial Administration Gnel  Sanosyan reported the commencement of construction of a highway as an  alternative to the Lachin corridor. He said that the construction of  the Tegh-Kornidzor highway will be completed next May. 

Gor Avetisyan, Director of the Road Department Fund, reported that  the 11.8-km-long highway has three sections - 5km, 4km and 2.8km.

Thee new road will start t the intersection near the Mets Shen  settlement, on the 36th kilometer of the Stepanakert-Berdzor highway.  The Azerbaijani side constructed a 21-km-long section.
