Economic activity up by 14.1% in Armenia in Jan-Sept 2022

ArmInfo. A 14.1% annual increase in economic activity was recorded in Armenia this  January-September as compared with last January-September (against a  4.4% last January-September). A 14.6% increase in economic activity  was recorded this September against last September (against 2.4% last  year). This September alone saw an 8.9% increase in economic activity  against a 1.5% this August, and 12.6% last September against 2.3%  this August.

According to the RA Statistical Committee, the year-on-year increase  in economic activity was mainly due to the energy, services and  industrial sectors.

Inflation is rising: 8.6% this January-September against last  January-September, 9.9% this September against last September (with  0.6% inflation this September alone). Lower inflation was recorded in  the corresponding periods last year - 6.7% last January-September and  8.9% last September against September 2020 (with 0.1% deflation in  September alone).  

This January-September, the services sector accounts for 27.1% in the  economic activity growth, the energy sector's share being 16.9%,  followed by the trade sector (14.5%), construction (14.3%), industry  (10%). The agricultural sector showed a 0.7% decline. 

Last January-September, the energy sector recorded a 2.7% decline,  agricultural sector, a 1.5% decline. The other sectors recorded  moderate growth: the construction sector (6.4%), trade (6.4%),  services sector (5.4%), industrial sector (0.7%). 

This January-September, the index of prices for industrial products  showed a 4.1% rise as compared with the corresponding period last  year, with a 3.3% decline this September against last September, and  a 2.9% rise this September against a 1.8% decline this August. Last  January-September saw a 9.8% rise in the index of prices for  industrial products against the corresponding period last year, with  a 9.9% rise last September against September 2020, with a 2.7% rise  last September against 0.4% decline last August. 

This September, the construction sector recorded an 8.8% growth  (against 26.5% this August), followed by the services sector (4.7%  growth against a 3.3% decline), with the other sectors showing  growth: the construction sector (10.1% growth against 27.8% growth  last August), industry (5.9% growth against 0.6% growth last August),  services sector (3.4% growth against 1% growth this August), trade  (1.6% growth against 0.2% growth last August). 

This September against last September, all the sectors showed an  upward trend, with the energy and industrial sectors showing a  two-digit growth against the previous decline. Specifically, the  energy sector recorded a 19.3% growth, with the industrial sector  recording 14.8%, followed by the services sector (26.3%), trade  (20.7%), construction (14.6%). 

Last September against September 2020, the services sector recorded a  9.6% growth (against an 18.3% decline the previous year), followed by  the trade sector (1.4% against a 10.8% the previous year),  construction (2.6% against 0.6%), with the energy and industrial  sectors recording a decline - 2.9% and 1.2% respectively (against a  1.7% decline in the energy sector and a 1.8% decline in the  industrial sector the previous year). 

This January-September, in absolute terms, the trade sector was the  leader - AMD 3,02bln ($6.7bln), followed by the industrial sector  (AMD 1,900bln or $4.2bln), services sector (AMD 1,800bln or $4.1bln),  agricultural sector (AMD 672.8bln or $1.5bln), construction (AMD  300.2bln or $669.6mln). This January- September, the electric energy  output totaled 6,524.2mln kwh, with 656.6mln kwh this September    alone.  

This January-September, Armenia's foreign trade turnover totaled AMD  4,100bln ($9.3bln) - a 62.5% year-on-year growth against a 12.2%  growth the previous year. The shares of exports and imports in  Armenia's foreign trade were 63.8% and 61.6% respectively (against  17.2% and 9.4% respectively the previous year) - up to AMD 1,500bln  and AMD 2,600bln ($3.5bln and $5.8bln respectively).  

This September alone saw a 1.9% growth in Armenia's foreign trade  turnover due to stagnant imports a 2.9% growth in exports. This  August saw an 18.3% growth due to an 18.2% growth in exports and an  18.4% growth in imports. 

This September against last September, Armenia's foreign trade  turnover recorded a 2-fold growth, with a 2.5-fold growth in exports  and an 82.2% growth in imports. Last September against September  2020, Armenia's foreign trade turnover recorded a 7.8% growth due to  an 11.5% decline in exports and a 20.1% growth in imports. 

This September, the average AMD/USD exchange rate was 409.15/$1  against 448.37/$1 this January- September against AMD 488.12/$1 last  September and AMD 511.47/$1 last January-September.
