ArmInfo.On December 2, the opening ceremony of the joint project "Skill Building of Rural Farmers for Effective & Innovative Greenhouse Management” will take place at Yerevan Hall of Holiday Inn Hotel. The total project budget is USD19,780 of which USD14,300 is donated by HSBC Bank Armenia CJSC. JMF has also commited around 100 million AMD to serve as a loan capital for this project.
The overall goal of the project is to provide opportunities to disadvantaged small scale regional farmers to increase efficiency and profitability rate of their greenhouses by building their knowledge and skills on new methods and advanced technologies, as well as ensure financing along with the State subsidy for necessary investments.
The project targets farmers who live in the regions of Armenia and are willing either to construct a small greenhouse or already have one (up to 1000 sq. meter).
This initiative will be carried out through several phases. In the initial stage the majority of the applicants, at least 80 small holder farmers will undertake series of online trainings to get introduced to new and modernized agriculture technologies, pros and cons of small greenhouses, the opportunities and difficulties in the sub sector, etc. After the sessions the participants will be filtered and those with potential and commitement will move forward to work wih groups and to receivie individual consulting by best experts in the field.
Farmers who are ready to make investments for modernizing their greenhouses will take part in greenhouse business modeling training programme. The best models will be presented for financing receiving state subsidies reducing their interest up to 10%.
After project completion JMF will continue to work with those farmers who had investments in innovative greenhousing to support them with needed technical expertise by engaging qualified consultants in the field to contribute into the sustainable agriculture development in the regions.
