ArmInfo. From January 23, 2023, the Central Bank of Armenia will put into circulation a new batch of the 3rd generation composite banknote with a face value of 1,000 drams. This decision was made on December 27 at the meeting of the Board of the Central Bank of the Republic of Armenia. This is noted in the message of the Central Bank.
The images on the front and back of the new batch of 3rd generation thousandth banknotes are the same as in the batch of the 2018 issue. The only difference is in the license plates of the banknote, in the signatures of the heads of the Central Bank and the Ministry of Finance, and the date of issue. In particular, in the license plates (series and number of banknotes) appearing on the front side of the banknote on the top right horizontally and on the left side vertically, the letters "AA" are replaced by "AB" (series of banknotes), and next to them the indicated 8 digits, as before, indicate the number of the bill. Instead of the signatures of the former heads of the Central Bank and the Ministry of Finance, Artur Javadyan and Atom Janjughazyan, the signatures of Governor of the Central Bank Martin Galstyan and Minister of Finance Vahagn Khachatryan are now placed (from December 20, 2022 he was replaced in this position by Vahe Hovhannisyan). The date of issue on the new batch of thousandth banknotes is 2022.
It should be reminded that the new 3rd generation composite banknote of 1,000 AMD features the image of the Armenian poet Paruyr Sevak, instead of the still circulating thousandth banknotes of the old sample with the image of the poet Yeghishe Charents. Paper analogues of banknotes of the 3rd generation, i.e. 2nd generation banknotes are gradually being phased out as they wear out. At present, banknotes of 1000 drams denomination of the old sample of 1999, 2001, 2011 and 2015 are in circulation, along with which, since December 25, 2018, composite banknotes of the 3rd generation of the same denomination have been circulating.
It would be appropriate to note that the 3rd generation composite banknotes were put into circulation in November-December 2018 on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the national currency of Armenia - the dram. In particular, it was on the anniversary day of the dram - on November 22, 2018, banknotes of the 3rd generation with a face value of 10,000, 20,000 and 50,000 drams were put into circulation, and later - on December 25 of the same year, banknotes with a face value of 1,000, 2,000 and 5,000 drams were put into circulation, and the banknot with a face value of 2,000 drams was put into circulation for the first time. By that time, the collectible composite banknote with a face value of 500 drams presented by the Central Bank in 2017 for the 24th anniversary of the dram has gained international success.
It should be noted that the composite banknotes of the 3rd generation depict: on the banknote of 1000 drams - the Armenian poet Paruyr Sevak (instead of the poet Yeghishe Charents - on the banknote of the old sample of the 2nd generation), 5000 drams - the American writer of Armenian origin William Saroyan (instead of Hovhannes Tumanyan), 10,000 drams - the great composer Komitas (instead of Avetik Isahakyan), 20,000 drams - the famous marine painter Hovhannes (Ivan) Aivazovsky (instead of Martiros Saryan), and 50,000 drams - the founder of the Armenian Apostolic Church, St. Gregory the Illuminator. The ninth world chess champion Tigran Petrosyan is depicted on the banknote of 2,000 drams, issued for the first time.
