ArmInfo.Head of the State Revenue Committee of Armenia Rustam Badasyan spoke about the approximate scale of the shadow economy of the Republic of Armenia.
So, according to him, according to a joint assessment with the IMF, the "tax gap" for VAT is about 1.3% of GDP in 2021, or about 100 billion drams. <We also made estimates for income tax and profit tax. In this case, it turned out to be about 1.5% of GDP, that is, about 110 billion drams>, Badasyan said in an interview with Civilnet.
As the chief tax officer pointed out, this gap must be filled with administration.
At the same time, Badasyan said that he is skeptical about both these numbers and the numbers giving an assessment from top to bottom. < In my opinion, the evaluation should go from bottom to top. In other words, to spread the logic of behavior of shadow entrepreneurs proven by the administration to the players of this sector. I think that we should concentrate more on understanding what part of this shadow, theoretically, can be attracted to the state budget and using what tools>, he said.
