The Kaps reservoir in Armenia will be built by the Chinese Shanxi Construction Investment Group Co and Shanxi Hydraulic Construction Engineering Bureau Group Co companies, which won the international tender. The agreement with the companies was signed on April 21 at the RA Territorial Development Fund.
The total budget of the project is 97.8 million euros, of which 68.5 euros are credit funds from KFW Bank, the rest is co-financing from the RA government. As a result of the implementation of the project, the level of water supply of the Shirak main and Akhuryan right-bank canals and about 17,000 hectares of land under their management will be increased. In addition, it will be possible to replace the mechanical irrigation of 2,280 hectares of land with gravity irrigation, which will save 1.3 million kWh of electricity annually. The ceremony of laying the foundation of the Kaps reservoir is scheduled for May 17.
