ArmInfo. Armenia's government will allocate EUR 2,219,500 for launching a checkpoint construction project in Meghri.
The project will be implemented under a credit programme between Armenia and the EBRD. An international tender was invited for contractors on December 23, 2021. Three companies submitted their tenders. The tenders were presented to the EBRD and a EUR 22,194,700mln contract was signed with the Iranian TANA ENERGY MANAGEMENT company, on January 27, with 10% of the total amount to be transferred to the contractor's account in the first half of this year for the construction to be started.
The construction of one more modern checkpoint in Armenia's south is to be completed in 2026.
The EBRD and EU will provide EUR 21.1mln to Armenia for modernizing the Meghri checkpoint on the Armenian-Iranian border.
The EBRD will issue a EUR 10.6mln loan to Armenia on Libor+1% terms. The financing will mainly be due to EU grants under the European Neighborhood programme - EUR 10.6mln and EUR 700,000. The agreement was signed on February 7, 2020. The checkpoint's daily capacity will be increased from 300 to 900 vehicles.
