Armenia, Turkmenistan discuss possibilities of expanding economic  cooperation

ArmInfo. Nerses Karamanukyan, Vice-President of the Union of Manufacturers and Businessmen of  Armenia (UMBA) received Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to Armenia Muhammetgeldi Ayazov.

According to the press service of the UMBA, the parties discussed the  possibilities of further expansion of the Armenian-Turkmen economic  cooperation.

Noting the significant growth in mutual trade, Nerses Karamanukyan  said that Armenian entrepreneurs see good prospects for deepening  trade and economic cooperation with Turkmenistan.  "Between our  countries there is a large untapped potential in the energy sector,  agriculture, light industry, pharmaceuticals, jewelry, etc.",  said  the UMBA's Vice-President. At the same time, he presented to the  Ambassador the programs implemented by the Union.

In turn, Muhammetgeldi Ayazov stressed that economic cooperation is  one of the most important areas in the Armenian-Turkmen relations.

"Over the 4 and a half years of diplomatic activity in Armenia, we  have managed to implement memorable bilateral initiatives, but there  are still numerous unrealized opportunities," he said.

According to the diplomat, the implementation of logistics programs,  which are currently under discussion, can contribute to the further  development of bilateral trade and economic ties. He attached  importance to close cooperation between the Armenia's UMBA and  Turkmenistan as an important factor in enhancing economic ties.

According to the source, the Ambassador extended an invitation to the  UMBA's President Arsen Ghazaryan to participate in the upcoming  official opening of the newly built city of Arkadag on June 29 and in  the events organized on this occasion.

It should be noted that according to the RA Statistical Committee,  the foreign trade turnover between Armenia and Turkmenistan in  January-April 2023 increased by 13.7% to $6.9 million. In particular,  exports increased by 36.2% to $5.7 million, while imports decreased  by 36.2%, amounting to $1.2 million
