Sepuh-1 enterprise intends to organize mass production in long term,  which will allow exporting cars to EAEU market

ArmInfo.Sepuh-1 will assemble SsangYong crossovers (South Korea). General Director of the National  Body for Standards and Metrology Albert Babayan told ArmInfo correspondent.  , he stressed.

According to Babayan, the Sepuh-1 company was registered in Armenia  in 2018. In 2020, the latter applied to the Ministry of Economy with  a request to provide an opportunity to certify cars without emergency  call systems.

In 2021, the Ministry of Economy introduced a relevant bill into  circulation, and in 2022, with the support of the government, the  EAEU Council adopted a legal act that allows manufacturers within  their country to import, produce and sell cars without these systems,  and receive a conformity assessment document.

"Thanks to this benefit, 4 cars were certified in September last  year, and 4 more in 2023," added the head of the National Body for  Standards and Metrology. Speaking about the cost of crossovers  assembled in Armenia, Mr. Babayan said that when this project was  first discussed in 2020, it was about $30-40 thousand. To date, 8  crossovers of the Ssang Yong brand have already been assembled at the  enterprise.

At the same time, he stressed that all cars produced within the  framework of the benefits provided are available exclusively for sale  in the territory of Armenia. In the long term, the company intends to  organize mass production, which will allow exporting cars to the  market of the EAEU countries.

Mr. Babayan noted that he positively assesses the establishment of  such production in the country. Being the only authority in the  country that provides a WMI code identifying a vehicle (World  Manufacturers Identification), he noticed that since 2018, the WMI  code has been provided to 5 manufacturers, but only the Sepuh-1  enterprise has received conformity assessment document and state  registration.

As  Mr. Babayan noted, the Sepuh-1 enterprise is located in the  administrative district of Nor-Nork, and the owner is an Armenian  citizen.
