Armenia`s Economy Ministry convenes urgent discussion within EAEU on  situation at Upper Lars

ArmInfo. The Ministry of Economy of Armenia is studying the publication of "Rosselkhoznadzor"  to understand the degree of non-compliance of Armenian products with  the standards applied by the Russian Federation.

This was stated by  the head of the department, Vahan Kerobyan, on November 29 in a  conversation with journalists, touching on the statement of the  Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance of the  Russian Federation about the growing frequency of violations during  the supply of plant products from Armenia.

Let us remind you that about 1,600 trucks are waiting to pass through  the Upper Lars international checkpoint. The road has been closed to  trucks since the evening of November 26 due to unfavorable weather  conditions. Trucks have been idle on the Russian-Georgian border for  several days also due to increased laboratory control in recent days,  as a result of which several dozen vehicles have already been  returned to the Republic of Armenia.

"It's strange that over the entire year and in these two days, as  many as 35 trucks were returned (to Armenia). And this is in the case  when no changes were made in the regulations or in the quality of the  supplied products," Kerobyan noted, refraining from answering the  question whether this is related to the "non-participation" of the  Republic of Armenia in CSTO events.

As the minister indicated, the Armenian Ministry of Economy has  convened an urgent discussion within the EAEU, which will take place  over the next two days.

As for the dissatisfaction of experts and exporters due to the fact  that the Ministry of Economy is not working towards diversifying  sales markets, then, according to Kerobyan, they simply do not notice  "what is being done in China, Japan, the USA, the EU and the Persian  Gulf countries".

At the same time, as the head of the Ministry of Economy noted, each  exporter must negotiate with his buyer and sell his products in  various markets. "If exporters believe that they can make big profits  in one market with little effort and cheap products and are happy  with it when faced with problems, it should be understood that such  an opportunity can also be risky," Vahan Kerobyan concluded.
