ArmInfo. On December 7, the Government of Armenia approved the proposal to sign letter No. 1 on  amending the grant agreement "North-South Road Corridor" dated November 18, 2016 between the Republic of Armenia and the European Investment Bank (EIB). On December 7, the Government of Armenia approved the proposal to sign letter No. 1 on amending amendments to the grant agreement "North-South Road Corridor" dated November 18, 2016 between the RA and EIB.

Based on a grant agreement between the Republic of Armenia (RA) and  the European Investment Bank (EIB) (investment grant in the amount of 6 million euros and  technical assistance in the amount of 6 million euros), signed on  November 18, 2016 in Within the framework of the EU Neighborhood  Investment Instrument, as well as the financial agreement of the same  name dated November 7 and November 18, 2013 between Armenia and the  EIB (EUR 60 million), work is being carried out to reconstruct the  27.47 km section of the Lanjik-Gyumri road as part of the 3rd tranche  of the investment program.

The project is part of an overall programme aimed at improving and  upgrading the North-South Road Corridor (NSRC) in Armenia. The NSRC  runs 556 km from the border with Georgia at Bavra via Gyumri,  Ashtarak, Yerevan, Goris, and Kapan, to the border with Iran at  Meghri. It is 2-lane throughout, with the exception of an 18km length  on the M-1 (Yerevan-Ashtarak) and the M-2 (Yerevan-Ararat section),  which are dual 2-lane. In winter, snow disruption can occur at any  time over the route, and conditions are particularly severe in  Shirak, north and south of Gyumri, where temperatures can drop below  -30ø. The project scope includes the sections north of Yerevan  towards the Georgian border.
