ArmInfo. Iran expressed its readiness to provide favorable conditions for Armenian companies to use the services of Iranian ports. The statement was made at Armenian Deputy Minister of Economy Narek Teryan's meeting with Head of Iran's Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO) Ali-Akbar Safaei.
According to the message of the Armenian Embassy in Iran, the parties agreed to sign an industry memorandum of cooperation, which will allow the Armenian side to use Iranian ports.
During the meeting, Mr Teryan and Mr Ali-Akbar Safaei also discussed Armenian-Iranian relations, in particular issues related to cargo transportation between the countries. It was noted that Armenia could become a transit country for Iran in the direction of the EAEU market, and Iran for Armenia - in the direction of the Persian Gulf, Central Asia and India.
In an earlier interview with The Economic Times, Mr Safaryan said Armenia is in talks to join Iran's Chabahar Port as it seeks access to India and other Asian nations.
"We are in talks to join the port and hope that the connectivity between the Chabahar Port and INSTC is completed soon. There are indications that this link will be concluded within a year," he said.
Armenia's eagerness to join the Chabahar Port comes in the backdrop of the trilateral grouping of India, Iran and Armenia. During a meeting in the Armenian capital Yerevan this April, the three sides discussed economic projects and regional communication channels.
